Sugarcane Reported in the Texas Blacklands

Sugarcane aphids were reported in planted sorghum from many counties in the central Blacklands region last week, May 12-18.  The most northern reports were in McLennan (Waco) and Hill County (Hillsboro) where infestations were very light (less than 5% infested plants).  The appearance of SCA in Hill County was about 10 days later than in 2016.  Hill County is about 150 miles south of the Texas/Oklahoma border.  Sugarcane aphid was also reported from Uvalde County, the most western location to date.
